1. Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE & LLDPE)

Polyethylene is a white waxy solid, translucent, almost odorless and non-toxic. The flexible molecular chain is easy to crystallize. At room temperature, PE consists of partially crystalline regions and amorphous regions in high elastic state.

LDPE

Properties: Good processability, decent transparency, poor gas barrier, low tensile strength, low heat resistance. Its chemical & solvent resistance is inferior to HDPE. It tends to swell and turn sticky when absorbing grease.
Applications: Blow-molded bottles, squeeze tubes for condiment & pharmaceutical packaging; caps & stoppers; various packaging films, containers, foam cushioning materials.

LLDPE

Properties: Impact strength and environmental stress crack resistance are close to HDPE. Its transparency, hardness and processability sit between HDPE and LDPE. It has the best elongation and puncture resistance among all polyethylene grades.
Applications: Ideal for packaging films. Film thickness can be reduced by 20% compared with LDPE. It is a promising packaging plastic.

2. High Density Polyethylene (HDPE)

Properties: High strength and heat resistance (max 120°C). Poor transparency, elasticity and processability, low gas barrier and gloss. Surface treatment required before printing.
Applications: Containers, pallets, large drums for fresh milk & chemical bulk packaging; bottles for yogurt, detergent & bleach; caps and stoppers.

3. Expanded Polyethylene (EPE, commonly known as pearl cotton)

Available in sheets, plates, tubes, rods and custom-cut profiles.
Properties: Eco-friendly, excellent elasticity and toughness.
Applications: Protective packaging for all shapes of goods, especially anti-static cushion packaging for electronics (PC, TV, speakers). Also used for life jackets, floating boards, travel bags and hats.

4. Polypropylene (PP)

Properties: The lightest general-purpose plastic. It has the highest heat resistance among commodity plastics, usable continuously at 100℃~120℃. High crystallinity; tensile strength & hardness better than PE. Good moisture barrier, odor barrier and heat sealability. Outstanding flex fatigue resistance. Resistant to acids, alkalis, salts and most organic solvents below 80℃.
Weakness: Poor low-temperature performance and aging resistance; vulnerable to light and oxygen. Surface treatment needed for bonding or printing.

Applications: Turnover boxes for food, chemicals, cosmetics and beverages; blow bottles for shampoo & cosmetics; hinge caps, woven bags, packaging films, strapping bands and foam cushioning.

5. Polystyrene (PS)

Properties: Colorless, transparent, odorless and non-toxic. Good coloring & printability, low water absorption, good dimensional stability. Rigid and non-ductile. Resistant to organic acids, alkalis, salts and low alcohols. Low impact strength, easy to scratch, poor moisture & heat resistance. It will soften when exposed to hydrocarbons, ketones and higher fatty acids.
Applications: Small packaging containers (boxes, cups) for food, medicine and daily goods; packaging films. Widely used as foam cushion for instruments, meters and electrical products.

6. Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)

Properties: Good rigidity & hardness, poor heat resistance. Transparency: 76%~82%. Great mechanical strength, wear resistance, pressure resistance, moisture barrier, water barrier and gas barrier, heat-sealable. Good printability and flame retardancy. Resistant to strong acids, strong alkalis and non-polar solvents, but attacked by polar organic solvents.
Note: Raw PVC monomer and common plasticizers/stabilizers may be toxic. Food & pharmaceutical grade PVC must use non-toxic additives, with vinyl chloride monomer ≤1ppm.
Applications: Rigid packaging containers, transparent sheets and flexible packaging films. PVC sheets can be thermoformed into containers for food & pharmaceutical packaging. Also made into foam cushion materials.

7. Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET)

Properties: Excellent mechanical strength, good hardness, wear resistance and fold resistance. Stable under high & low temperature. Good moisture barrier, gas barrier and odor barrier. Resistant to weak acids, weak alkalis and most solvents, oil resistant, print-friendly. Not resistant to strong acid, strong alkali and chlorinated hydrocarbons. Easy static buildup, poor heat sealability, relatively high cost.
Applications: Packaging films and containers. PET films suit frozen & retort food packaging. PET bottles are widely used for beverage packaging.

8. Polyvinylidene Chloride (PVDC)

Properties: Slightly light brown tough material with high crystallinity. Extremely low water vapor & gas transmission rate, outstanding gas and moisture barrier. Good mechanical strength, resistant to strong acids, strong alkalis and organic solvents, excellent oil resistance, self-adhesive, flame resistant. Poor aging resistance, sensitive to UV light, may decompose and release hydrogen. Its monomer is toxic, so strict quality control is required for food packaging.

9. Polyamide (PA, Nylon)

Properties: Tough, semi-transparent keratin-like material, odorless and non-toxic. Smells like burning wool when ignited. High crystallinity, high melting point, oil & solvent resistant, excellent mechanical performance. Superior tensile & impact strength, good wear resistance, self-lubricating and flex fatigue resistance, good low-temperature performance. Gas barrier better than PE/PP, resistant to alkali & dilute acid, anti-static and good printability.
Weakness: High water absorption & moisture permeability. Dimensional stability drops at high humidity, gas barrier deteriorates after absorbing water. Not resistant to formic acid, phenol, alcohols and concentrated alkali.
Applications: Mainly for flexible food packaging, especially oily food. Nylon containers for chemical reagents.

10. Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA)

Properties: Normally water-soluble. Water resistance can be improved by heat treatment, acetalization or cross-linking. Good transparency and toughness, odorless & non-toxic. Excellent gas barrier and aroma retention, good mechanical strength, stress-crack resistance, chemical resistance and oil resistance, anti-static, printable and heat-sealable. High water absorption and moisture permeability, vulnerable to alcohols and esters.
Applications: Food packaging; water-based PVA for metered packaging of chemicals.

11. Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate Copolymer (EVA)

Properties: Better stress-crack resistance, cold resistance, aging resistance and low-temperature heat sealability than PE. Resistant to strong alkali and weak acid. Film tends to block and has poor slip property. Moisture barrier inferior to LDPE, poor gas barrier and heat resistance. Attacked by strong acids & organic solvents, soluble in aromatic & halogenated hydrocarbons, low oil resistance.
Applications: Packaging films for pallet stretch wrapping. Widely used as sealing layer for multi-layer composite films; packaging containers for pharmaceuticals and food.

12. Polycarbonate (PC)

Properties: Colorless, transparency 80%~90%, refractive index ~1.59, suitable for optical parts. Good moisture & gas barrier, excellent aroma retention, wide temperature tolerance. Outstanding impact toughness; unnotched impact strength ranks top among thermoplastics. Low molding shrinkage & water absorption, stable dimension, anti-static, good insulation. Resistant to dilute acid, oxidants, reducing agents, salts and aliphatic hydrocarbons, good oil resistance.
